Photo measures 7 x 10. Largest Individual hangar for airplanes at United Airport, Burbank, California. The new building, 311 by 246 feet, with a total floor space of 72,000 feet, is the result of a need for more space to take care of the increasing activities at the $1,000,000 terminal--western terminal of the new Southern Air Fast Express, subsidiary of Aviation Corporation. Thomas F. Hamilton, president of the airport and head of the Hamilton Steel Propeller Company, ordered doors on the hangar that will allow ships with a wing span of 299 feet to pass. Clearance between the floor and top of the doors is twenty-two feet. Cantilever construction makes this wide opening possible and has resulted in the structure having only four supporting columns in the interior.
