This is an original press photo. Washington, D.C. -- After failing at the White House in Washington, D.C. in their first attempt to settle differences between the American Federation of Labor and the Congress Of Industrial Organizations, leaders of the rival labor unions are shown as they met at the Labor Department to try again. Left to right, front row, are Philip Murray (CIO), John L. Lewis (CIO-President), Harry Bates (AFL) and Daniel Tobin (AFL). Left to right, back row, are Sidney Hillman (CIO) Matthew Woll (AFL) and Thomas A. Rickert (AFL). Tobin did not attend the first meeting. The men agreed to continue negotiations in New York, Friday, March 10th, with John L. Lewis' proposal for an "American Congress of Labor" as the chief item on the agenda. The A.F. of L. may offer a counter-proposal.
