This is an original press photo. This "flight crew," at the Seattle plant of the Boeing Aircraft Company never leaves the ground. They are at the controls of Boeing's engine test laboratory, putting an airplane engine through rigid performance tests. Pre flight testing of this type enables aircraft engineers to iron out the bugs of new power plant installation systems before they go into production. In front of the test crew is a full set of engine instruments, just like the ones they would find in the control cabin of a plane. The black dial is a "windecator" giving wind velocity and direction. The laboratory is mounted on wheels and can be shifted to take advantage of winds from any direction.Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 4-3-1942.
