This is an original press photo. South Bend, Indiana Student seated in an imitation Army tank, developed by Studebaker Corp Early in 1942 for training drivers when a shortage of real tanks existed, The trainer tank covered a 6 ton, 24 foot chassis. A motion picture screen designed to show different types of terrain faced the drivers.While film was shown a dynamometer increased or decreased loads on engine in accordance with grades shown.Student drivers could familiarize themselves with controls and the most efficient use of powr before graduating to a genuine tank.Photo measures 8 x 6.25 inches. Photo is dated 10-26-1945.
