This is an original press photo. Landing in a rough sea and splitting the hull was too much for the Coast Guard Rescue plane sent 528 miles out to sea to return a Honolulu girl, Ill aboard the Albutian, to San Francisco. Left is Ensign J. H. Tooley on the wing, the sea was too choppy too, permit the lifeboat to come alongside, but the crew got off in their rubber life raft, and were taken aboard the Aleutian and later transfers along with the girl to a faster Navy Transport and rushed to San Francisco. Photo measures 9 x 6.25 inches. Photo is dated 1-15-1946.
