This is an original press photo. Four Naval officers who will play important parts in the 1930 National Elimination Balloon Races to be held July 4th at the Metropolitan Air Terminal, Houston Texas. The Navy will enter three balloons in the elimination race as a result of which three contestants from the teams entered are selected by the National Aeronautic Association to represent the United States in the International Gordon Bemmett Balloon Race to be held September first at Cleveland Ohio. Top left, Lieut. J. A. Greenwald, U.S.N. who will act as aide to pilot Bushnell in Balloon No. 3. His home is at Pittsburgh Pa., from where he entered the Naval Academy in June 1922. Top right, Lieutenant W. Bushnell, USN who will act as pilot of balloon number 3. His home is at Watertown, New York. He entered the Naval Academy in July 1922. Lower left, Lieut. C.F. Miller, USN who will act as aide to pilot R.R. Bennett of Balloon Number 2. He is a native of New York City and entered the Naval Academy in July 1921. Lower right, Lieut. R.R. Bennett, USN who will act as pilot of Balloon Number 2. he is native of Washington DC and was commissioned in June 1921. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 6-11-1930.
