This is an original press photo. New Mass-Production Technique For Aircraft
Baltimore--Airplane parts move along a conveyor belt for the use of operators working on a bomber sub-assembly at the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore, bringing a new mass-production technique to aircraft construction. The conveyor moves at a predetermined speed, so that each piece arrives before each-worker just at the time he needs it. Early counts show that the conveyor system has already cut in half the man-hours required for these sub-assemblies, and it is estimated that more spectacular savings will result when the men become accustomed to their repetitive operations. The new system will be used throughout the Martin plants.Photo measures 9 x 7.25 inches. Photo is dated 10-28-1941.
