This is an original press photo. Fingers of Heat -- Tokyo: Every winter since the end of World War II, office workers in Tokyo have been faced with the same problem -- how to keep warm. During the war all stoves, elevators, hand rails and other objects of metal not absolutely essential were melted down for war materials. Since then the heating equipment has not been replaced and each winter office buildings sprout a new crop of stove pipes which crawl up the sides of the buildings like tentacles. It has been estimated the cost of stove pipes alone would have paid for the re-installation of proper heating equipment but so far the job has not yet been done.Photo measures 7.25 x 9inches. Photo is dated 12-12-1952.
