This is an original press photo. St. Louis: Injury-plagued St. Louis Hawks basketball star, Bob Pettit, nearly breaks up after announcing his retirement from pro basketball here 3/1. The NBA's all time scoring leader said he expected to play the last two games this season to end his 19-year career. He has missed 21 games this season because of injuries. --- A new star was coming to life in National Basketball association in the winter of 1954-'55. The new star was Bob Pettit, fresh out of Louisiana State University, who was owner Ben Kerner's No.1 choice in the college draft. Pettit, who played one season in Milwaukee before Kerner moved the club to St. Louis, Monday announced his retirement from professional basketball at the end of the season.
