Narrator Russ Reed (left) explains to visitors at the SMI-Pepsi Store Control Center exhibit at McCormick Place in Chicago, how automation can handle routine responsibilities for a store manager while he spends more time with his department managers and customers. His assistant at the control panel, model Diane Burkart, keeps an eye on routine activities and calls the manager only when an exceptional situation arises that requires the manager's attention. Super Market Institute developed the Store Control center idea and a special grant from Pepsi-Cola Co. was used to finance the design and construction of the Store Control Center exhibit. Photo measures 9 x 8 in.
