This is an original press photo. Hyderabad, India-The government Friday announced the death Tuesday night of the nizam of Hyderabad, the 80 year old former ruler of the princely state an once reputed to be the richest man in the world, He had been in failing health after an attack of influenza. Unofficial sources suggest that the death announcement was delayed so religious rites could be arranged. The Nizam of Hyderabad, former absolute ruler of one of India's wealthiest state's, today was reported in extreemely critical condition. He is 80. The nizam, whose name is General Sir Mir Osam Ali Khan, ruled over state until princes were stripped of their power when India began its independence in 1947. He once was rated as world's richest man and his wives and children are said to number 250. In 1960, however, as he is seen in picture to the left, he accepted contributions because he reportedly was $4 million in debt. At right he is seen in official portrait during height of his rule in south central India. Photo measures 8 x 10.25 inches. Photo is dated 02-22-1967.
