This is an original press photo. Alabama-Dams: 10 year development project completed. Governor Albert Brewer will speak at the dedication Friday of the new Walter Bouldin Dam on the Coosa River near Wetumpka, with the dedication of the 225,000-kilowatt facility; Alabama Power Company puts in full operation a system of dams and lakes along the Coosa to provide hydroelectric power, stream flow regulation, navigation, recreation and other benefits to the area. The project, completed over a 10-year period and including five dams, is one of the largest of its kind ever undertaken by an investor-owned power company. It has 609,000 kilowatts of new hydroelectric generating power, created a chain of navigable pools reaching from the mouth of the Coosa near Montgomery upstream to Rome, Georgia, provided important flood control measures and added new opportunities for water recreation. The new dam is the project being named for Walter Bouldin, chairman of the board of Alabama Power. Photo measures 9.25 x 7inches. Photo is dated 09-13-1969.
