This is an original press photo. Bobby Hull, who left the Chicago Black Hawks of the NHL to join the Winnipeg Jets of the new World Hockey Association, waves to crowd after receiving a new watch prior to start of game between the Jets and the New York Raiders, in New York's Madison Square Garden Thursday night. Hull, player-coach for the Jets, could not play in the game due to a Philadelphia court ruling, but he could coach his team, who appear in the background. The game marked the debut of the WHL play in the U.S.
Bobby Hull, who left the Chicago Black Hawks to become playing coach of the Winnipeg Jets in the new World Hockey Association, waved to fans after he had been given a watch before his team's opening game in New York. Hull was unable to play pending a court ruling on his status but the Jets beat New York in Madison Square Garden, 6-4.Photo measures 10.75 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated 10-12-1972.
