This is an original vintage press photo, not a reproduction or digital copy. Sarah Goes Up in A Balloon. Actress Glenda Jackson portraying the great actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923) in the lavish Render's Digest film "Sarah", now in production in england, took off in a balloon from a park near London this week. In the film the scene takes place in Paris in 1870s when Sarah, then a rebellious young actress with the Comedie Francaise, decided to go ballooning in the Bois de Boulogne but was carried of course by strong winds, missed three performances and was fired. Historically, Bernhardt took off from the Bois in 1878, seven years after the Siege of Paris (1870-71) during the Franco Prussian war when ballooning was not a hobby but a vital element in the city's survival. OPS: Up goes the balloon with Glenda Jackson aboard accompanied by Anthony Smith, left an experienced balloon pilot and her co star Daniel Massey who portrays Sardou, the 19th century playwright who created many on Sarah's most popular successes.
