This is an original press photo. Saxon Harbor, Wis.- Charles Lamerand has been watching the gradual wearing away of this small Iron County community for more than 40 years. Lamerand, who is 73 and a retired commercial fisherman, lives with his wife, Angeline, in a house beside County Trunk A, which skirts the Lake Superior shore as it winds through Saxon Harbor. The road separates Lamerand's property from the eroding red clay banks of Lake Superior.Three years ago, one of the homes atop the 50 foot high bluffs tumbled into the lake when erosion and undercurrents undermined the clay banks. Charles Lamerand strolled below the eroded banks.Photo measures 6.75 x 10.25inches. Photo is dated 08-13-1978.
